We went down to Salem this Sunday for the Ag Fest, a celebration of all things farm related. I knew this would be right up Killians alley, since he is such a little farm boy. We got there about a 1/2 an hour after they opened, so it wasn't too crowded. First stop was an area set up with a bunch of different booths for the kids to learn and do activities. We stopped at the chicks first, of course. I didn't get a picture, but they had chicks in various stages of hatching in an incubator, and it was pretty cool to see. There was also the kiddie pool full of fluffy little chicks, so they spent a while there.

We also saw Emu chicks! The eggs are huge, about the size of my hand, and forest green in color. These two are a couple weeks old. They have the longest legs!

We stopped to check out this Dairy section, and Rowan kept telling this cow "Happy Birthday"! She was smitten:

The kids got to plant some seedlings, we chose green peppers, which we were planning to grow in the garden already:

We also got to "milk" a cow:

After we finished there, we headed over to the livestock building. We saw a pony ride on the way, which I really wanted Row to do, but the line. Oh the line!! It seems like thats always the most popular event, and I am just not willing to stand in line for 45 minutes for a quick trip around the circle on a pony. The kids were more excited about seeing the goats and cows anyways. Here is Killy getting up close and personal:

My little "cow"girl:

We headed over to wait for the next sheep shearing demonstration, and watched this mama and her piglets for a while. She looks so exhausted! The piglets were constantly climbing over each other, in search of the perfect "nursie". Rowan was delighted :)

The sheep shearing was crazy. I couldn't believe the contortions that he put that ewe through, and she was totally content and relaxed the whole time:

The wool after shearing:

It was pretty cool to watch! After that, we headed over to check out the farm equipment. I couldn't believe how HUGE some of this stuff was. The combine was the size of a small house.....crazy.

Inside they had a whole bunch a daddy toys (aka 4 wheelers and go carts) and the kids just had to sit on every one. Rowan got a big kick out of "driving" and riding with big brother:

Looks like a pretty fun filled day right? It was...but as far as Row is concerned, we could have skipped all of it, and gone straight to this coin operated pony. She cracked up, almost hysterically laughing the whole time the pony was moving. I should have taken a video, but if you click on this picture, you can see the pure happiness on her face. She loved that pony, and cried when we left. Maybe she is going to grow up to be a little farmer like her brother!
