Heat wave......its HOT!!

If you dont live in Oregon, you might not know what crazy freaking weather we have this year. Snow on the valley in April, and this week it went from highs in the low 60's to highs in the mid 90's pretty much overnight. Its HOT. And sweaty. And miserable. Did I mention HOT? I can do the low 80's but anything above that makes us all a little cranky, and tired. Trying to escape that situation, we headed out to the river with our best friends: Aimee and her kids Paul, Henry and baby Jon. We played there for about 4 hours, and the kids had such a great time. I know this is going to be a regular hangout this summer! We had to hike in a ways:

Then we had to cross the river, which had a pretty fast moving current in the middle. Aimee and I went one at a time with the kids, and then had to cross a couple more times to get all the picnic stuff and gear over. It was worth it though, we found a great shallow place with a shady area for the blankets. The kids got down to the business of playing. Rowan checking out the water:

She ended up spending most of her time stomping her feet and splashing like crazy.:

Henry found a treasure (a random brick):

And of course, the boys played with sticks the whole time. What IS it with little boys and sticks? The love affair never ends...

Best buds:

And just cause it cant be all happy fluff pictures......I was standing in the shallows and saw something swimming by, grabbed a bucket and caught.....an eel?? We thought at first it was a snake, but it had a fin, and a weird sucker mouth. The kids of course were fascinated, while us mamas were a little grossed out. We tossed it in the fast moving part of the water, and away it went. Good riddance!

Poor Rowan(in the backround)...sometimes its a boys club:

She did find one interesting boy though:

Kissing already?

It must be love <3

And finally, the whole gang:

Is it crazy to say that I am looking forward to more hot weather, just so we can spend more days at the river like this? :)
