Killian graduated 1st grade yesterday!! I cant believe that summer is already here, seems like just yesterday that he was starting 1st grade, and now here he is, done for the year! He really enjoyed his year at school, he is such a smart kid, really excelling in math and reading (he reads at an ending 2nd grade level!) , and also enjoys science and music. But his two favorite subjects?! Recess and lunch! His Grandma Kit and I used to tease him all the time, because he would come home from school and we would ask what he did that day, and his reply was always "I ate lunch and then had recess". Maybe all those parents who criticize public schools are right if all they are doing there is having recess and lunch all day ;) We are going to keep up with learning this summer, lots of book work from the learning workbooks we have (even Rowan will be in on it, she has a preschool workbook!) and lots of real life learning, like baking and creative crafts. Killian will also be keeping a summer journal to practice spelling and handwriting. I am excited about that, its always interesting reading about his thoughts and experiences! Hopefully he will enjoy 2nd grade just as much as 1st grade!
Here he is getting off the bus...his bus driver used her loud speaker intercom thing to tell the kids to have a great summer, which they all got a huge kick out of:

Bye Bye bus:

I asked Killian to stand here with Rowan to take a picture of them together, but what he didn't realize was that the door wasn't all the way shut...

Resulting in this:

LOL. At least he was smiling about it! Our friend Paul was graduating Kindergarten that same day, so Aimee and I surprised the boys with a trip to McDonalds for lunch. This picture cracks me up, because clearly I am unable to get them all to look at me and smile at the same time. But it makes for some funny pictures!

We took them to the park afterwards. We ate cupcakes:

Aimee bought the boys these awesome parachute guys for graduation presents. They work really well, and the boys had tons of fun dropping them off of the highest places they could find:

And look at this happy little park goer! This ones going to be a heart breaker when he grows up!!

The merry go round!! I have only seen one other of these in recent years...they used to have them everywhere when I was growing up, but you just don't find them around much anymore. We had two fall offs, some near misses, and an upset tummy, which means its probably a good thing they are hard to find...they had a blast though!
After the park, we rushed home to meet Nummy (grandma) and Papa (grandpa) at our house for another round of surprises and treats. We ate more cupcakes, and Killian opened his "graduation" presents. This became a tradition by accident. Last year we wanted to buy him a new bike for the summer, and happened to find one right before he graduated from Kindergarten. So...we gave it to him as a graduation present. Well, this year, about a month before the last day of school, Killian started hinting around that if I was maybe possibly going to get him anything for graduation (hint hint) that he maybe possibly would really really like a horse trailer and horses......hint hint HINT!!!! He really enjoyed them, and was super excited, but I think next year we will move away from presents, and have his surprise be a fun adventure somewhere instead. I like celebrating that he has accomplished something, but I would rather it be an event instead of a toy. Anyways, here is the happy big boy:
