This weekend, Matthew and I, the kids, and Aimee and her kids packed up and went camping at Champoeg State Park. We stayed in yurts, and man...is that the way to camp! I used to be a camping snob...if you didn't stay in a tent in a secluded area, or if you showered or brought a tv...well then you weren't really camping. Then I had kids. Let me tell you, its is SO much easier to unlock a yurt door, and have everything all set up for you than it is to wrangle tent poles, stakes and air mattresses. Its camping in stylish comfort. Our yurt in all its glory:

The kids had a great time, mostly playing with the fire, which got a little irritating for us parents. There are only so many times that you can hear "Can I burn this paper/grass/yogo/stick/lego man/left shoe" before you want to run screaming from the campsite. They did get lots of time with the fire while cooking hot dogs for dinner and the smores were a big hit:

FIIIIIIIIRRRREEE:

Rowan and Henry played so great together, they invent little stories, and make their lego men act them out. I am saving this picture to show them when they start dating. Aimee and I have it all planned out ; )

It was getting close to sunset that night when we decided to take the kids for a walk. They had such a fun time, running along the path, picking up sticks and playing, while us grownups watched for bats (yes...I think we saw a few!). Rowan sang almost the whole way, which was really sweet:

We decided to take a "shortcut" back through this hay field:

We thought we were in trouble when we came to the edge of the hay field and found a barbwire fence, but Aimee and Matthew held it so everyone could get through, and we continued on our way. I had Henry up on my back, and I asked him if he would protect me if there were snakes. He thought about it for a minute, then said he would either have to be older, or have his hat, bag and whip with him, which he hadn't brought. Lucky for us, there were no snakes to be seen! The older boys did manage to grab huge amounts of hay, to take back to the campsite and make torches with:

And what good is a torch without.....FIRE!!

They were so excited to start the morning with more fire. What is it with little boys and fires?!
We dragged them away long enough to go check out the boat launch, and watch some teenage kids drive around their jet skis:

Uh oh. Watch out Henry, Rowan is putting the moves on your baby brother!

I don't know how to explain this one. I came back from the bathroom, and found Killian going wild with the bungee cords. I am keeping this picture for his future girlfriends :)

My silly girl:

All in all, it was a great time. The kids played great together as always, with only minor flare ups. Marshmallows were roasted, dirt was played in, and kids ran wild. It was camping at its finest. Thanks Aimee for sharing this trip with us, we are looking forward to the next one :)
