Country Living

Today we went out to Aimee's moms house and the kids spent the day playing farmer. They had such a great time, its so good for them to have the space to run and play, and to interact with all the different animals. We got there first thing in the morning to get everyone fed. We fed the mama cow and the horses first, and then went down and fed the sheep and baby cows. We stopped by the chickens next, and the kids picked fresh clover and tossed it in for them. The rooster was so funny, corraling all his ladies, and keeping an eye on the kids. Aimee's chicken coop is more like a palace for the birds, and they are so apparently very happy....we found 20 eggs total that day!

Then the kids got to go hang out in the pig pen, and chase the little porkers around. Killian and Paul thought it was great fun, but Rowan and Hank weren't so sure. They watched from the fence as the fun began:

Once we had everyone fed and exercised, we headed back up towards the house. The kids played on the playground they have there, and found lots of other things to amuse themselves. One was this old tricycle with tractor that Aimee had when she was a kid...they had a blast pulling each other around:

After lunch, the kids got to ride their old horse Joe. She is the sweetest mare, totally calm around the kids, and really more concerned with the tasty grass than who was on her back:

Each kid got a couple turns around the parking lot, Rowan was just beside herself, she had so much fun:

After lunch Hank and Rowan gave each other driving lessons:

The kids also got to walk a lamb around! Killian thought this was so cool, he was really gentle with it, and kept talking sweetly to it. He is such a farmer at heart:

There is a picture of Rowan walking the lamb here.
I loved this picture of the boys....this is what childhood is all about, running around with your shirt off, outside in the summer, with a big slobbery dog to keep you company:

Future farmers of America!

At the end of the day Rowan was D.O.N.E. and ready to go home. She sat down in the driveway in protest:

We all had such a great time, I am so grateful that the kids have this opportunity to spend time learning about the animals, and being outside and able to run free and play. We hope to spend many more "Farm Days" out there :) A big THANK YOU to DDonna...your the best! We appreciate you letting us take over your place for the day :)
