A farewell celebration

Killians very best friend is a boy named Patrick from his 1st grade class. We discovered early in the school year that Patrick and his family live only 3 houses away from us, and its been a play date ever since. Patrick and his little brother Sebastian are either over here a couple times a week, or Killian is over there. They have so much fun together, and get crazy and wild as only little boys can do. I was really looking forward to them having long summer days together, but its not going to happen this year. Their family is from Austria, and they always go back for the summer. This summer, Patrick's mom is pregnant with her 4th boy and due in August. Since she wont be able to travel until the baby is a little older, that means they are going to be gone for longer, until sometime in October. We are going to miss them so much!! I really love their family, and they have welcomed Killian into it with open arms. They leave this Friday, the 4th of July, so this week the boys have been playing together non stop. Seriously, they are spending HOURS together between the houses, and just having such a blast. They came over on Monday and played together outside in the water:

(Don't worry, Killian actually asked for this!)

Then we threw a going away play date pizza party for Patrick and Sebastian yesterday. Aimee and her boys came over too, the kids had all met at a local play area before and got along really well. Here are some pictures....
Fueling up:

Water balloons!! About 96 of them!!

See Rowan walking right through the fray, carrying her bucket?

She had run out of balloons, and was going from boy to boy asking for more. They were totally immersed in the fight, so they ignored her completely, but she didn't seem to mind. She got a kick out of watching those silly boys:

I made them some Ooblick, which is cornstarch and water mixed. It makes this wonderfully gooey, weirdly firm but wet mixture, which the boys went gaga over:

Rowan wasn't so sure:

That night, we bought some fireworks from a stand down the road, and invited the boys over to do them. Their dad surprised us and came with a huge box of Washington fireworks (aka...the good ones). We had such a great time! Matthew had bought a bunch of "the good ones" from a guy at work, so between those, the ones Patricks dad brought, and our puny Oregon fountains, the boys had plenty of opportunities to go crazy with fire. Its so amazing to watch little boys together, they just have such a great outlook on everything, and get so wild and crazy together. They don't stop to think things through (which is not always a great thing) but thats also part of their charm. They just go for life full throttle, and it makes me so happy to see them all having so much fun, and just getting to be kids together.

Killian felt really cool being able to light fireworks with the other boys:

And especially cool getting to light a mortar!!

Rowan stuck with sparklers:

and a good time was had by all. We are sure going to miss these boys this summer! Luckily for us, we still have Paul and Henry to pal around with, because whats a childhood summer without best friends to share it with?
