Little firefighters and fairies

On Saturday morning we went out to F.G. to visit the fire station that Aimee's husband works at. They were having an open house so the kids got to be little firefighters, and see what the big fire fighters do. They got to shoot water from a fire hose into the street:

and watch some firemen using the "Jaws of Life" to cut apart a car:

Sadly, Henry and Rowan got arrested while we were there. The charge? Being TO CUTE of course!

We saved the two coolest things for last; A ride in a fire truck, and a trip up up and away in a utility truck. The firetruck was really fun, the kids and I got loaded in (Killian got to sit in the front seat, where the Captain always sits) and then we put on these cool blue headsets. They were a tad large on the kiddos, but they looked super cute, and they liked talking in them. We rode down a couple blocks and headed back, while Rowan gave us this sound advice "Every time you get in a car, you need to get buckled up, or else you will DIE". She was very serious as she told us all this, and we were glad that we had indeed buckled up.

After we got unloaded from the fire truck, we headed over to the utility truck and met up with Aimee. We had to wait forever, but the reward was a fun, but very scary trip 58 feet up in the repair bucket. Killian rode with the driver, and I held Rowan:

We had safety straps on, but I was so nervous going up...those things shake around a LOT!

Killian thought it was the coolest thing ever though, and is considering a career. Such a daredevil! Then it was lunchtime, and we headed back to Aimees house for the coolest little treat...."Party Sandwiches". I had never heard nor seen a party sandwich maker, apparently because they are a Canadian thing, and not available in the States. Its kinda like a grilled cheese, but the grill makes 4 individual puffed pocket sandwiches, which Aimee stuffed with cheese and hot dogs. They were SOOOOOO good. I googled them, trying in vain to purchase one for myself, but I had no luck. Maybe Aimee will be a super best friend, and hook me up next time she is up North. HINT HINT ;)

After lunch, we headed to a Harvest Festival at Swallowtail School, a local Waldorf school here in Hillsboro. They own 26 acres of wetland/forested land, and are in the process of building a new school on the land. It looks like a really cool school, but tuition is out of this world....$7500 a YEAR. For one kid! I guess if you can afford it, it would probably be an awesome school. Anyways, it was a small but cute little festival. The kids checked out ducks, chicks and goats, colored some pieces of birch, made wands, and magic sticks and the coolest thing of all...archery! I love archery, and think it would be really cool to be in some nerdy archery club. I was hoping Killian would feel the same way, but although he thought it was fun, he wasn't to impressed with my idea to pursue it further. Maybe there is hope for Row when she gets bigger!

Magic sticks!

This day was just what we (I) needed. I have felt so buried under stress and house stuff that I feel like I haven't talked to anyone outside my family in weeks! So thank you Aimee for getting us out of the house, we had so much fun! Now...back to the grind :P
