Another day, another snow storm

Does this look familiar?

Boy this is wacky weather we are having! It started snowing at about 8am this morning, and its 3pm and its still snowing. I cant remember the last time that it has A) Snowed this much and B) Stayed around for this long. And they are predicting more snow Sunday - Tuesday, with temps staying below freezing for another week! Needless to say, Killian didn't have school again today. It looks like he is going to get a 3 week Christmas break instead of 2. He is so sad about that. Really.

With all this freedom, the kids are going a little batty. I am trying my best to keep them A) Away from the Xbox and B) From fighting with each other. My plan this morning included board games and they watched Back To The Barnyard after that. We had made it out yesterday to go to Costco, and the grocery store, and on our way home we hit up Blockbuster for some movies. It was a brilliant idea, one that I am patting myself on the back for. They get really excited about movies, especially when they can pull out their mattresses and bedding:

Since they were happily entranced by the movie, I decided to try my hand at making bread. Other than bread maker bread, the only other loaf of bread I have ever made was nasty loaf of white bread, so yeasty tasting that we took one bite and tossed it. Today I made wheat bread, since that's what we usually eat anyways. It turned out pretty good! The loaves are different sizes because the recipes said you could shape by hand or roll it out with a rolling pin. I am a nerd, and wondered what difference it made, so I did a little experiment and made one each way. The rolled out loaf is on the right, and was much fuller and better looking than the hand shaped loaf. Interesting. I haven't tasted the left side loaf yet, but I am curious to see if it tastes any different.

While the bread rose and then baked, we went outside to play. The kids and I built a snowman together, and decorated him with rocks and pine cones. Rowan was in charge of rolling up the head, and after I took these pictures, I realized I had forgotten to put on her coat!! Good thing we had just been outside for a few minutes, poor thing.

The kids got some straw from the garden and gave him a mohawk. The little punk turned out pretty good:

When we were done, we heard some of the neighbor kids outside and we went out front to play with them. Killian gleefully announced that it was snowball fight time, them against me. I don't like to brag....but I kicked their little pansy tooshies. After I exausted my supply of easy to reach car snow, I made up some excuse and went inside. No way were they going to get a chance to gang up on me! The kids followed pretty quickly and we had some hot chocolate to warm up. Nothing better than hot chocolate on a cold snowy day!!

I couldn't believe how deep the snow was....we must have close to 4 inches, between the last two storms. I know that's not much for a lot of places, but its huge for us! Its fun for the kids to play in, and I am excited about a possible "White Christmas" but....I also hope we go back to normal weather soon! We are used to getting out of the house every day, so staying home for days on end is a little tough for us (me mostly). We are having fun though, and its even a little bit nice having all this down time! That's it for the weather update! Hope everyone is warm and toasty and snuggled up at home today!
