The weather is still snowy and cold today. Killian got to stay home because school was canceled, so we decided to spend most of the day baking. The kids helped on and off, and also spent time playing cars in Killian's room and begging for Xbox 360 time. I mentioned to Matthew that Killian would have happily spent the whole day playing Xbox if I would have let him, and Matthew said "I would too, if you let me!" Lol. Guys!!
In spite of the pull of the gaming system, we got a lot done. In the morning we made Chai Spice cookies, which I didn't like very much at all. Not sure what it is, they just don't taste quite right. To buttery maybe, the recipe called for 3 sticks of butter. GAG! Then we made Peppermint Meringues, which are a strange concoction to be sure. After you whip them up, they have to cook in the oven for 2 hours! They are very tasty though, so its worth the wait. The kids had a fun time preparing them, Killian managed to get his candy cane bits on the meringues, while Row just managed to get them in her mouth.

Once they came out of the oven, Rowan couldn't keep her sticky fingers to herself, and ate 3 in a row! Here is what they look like when they are done:

Between those two recipes, Rowan and I made some pizza dough, and we turned this:

Into this:

One thing I really like about making dough is that you can start with the simplest ingredients, and end up with something so delicious. I cooked it a little too long, and the cheese got toasted, but it was still tasty. The kids and I love pizza, and with the turkey pepperoni, it might even be a little bit good for us too. At least I like to think so ;)
While we were waiting for the dough to rise, we went outside and froze ourselves silly. The weather man has been saying that with the wind chill its about 7 degrees outside, and I believe him. We didn't last long. The snow covered back yard looks so pristine and calm:

Until these two got turned loose! Killian climbed the play structure and found it was the perfect place to throw snowballs from:

Rowan looking cute:

Once we warmed up, we started the dough for some Cinnamon-Nut Buns. These are from the same basic recipe as the rolls I made for Thanksgiving. The recipe makes enough for two 9X13 pans, so I froze one to thaw for Christmas morning. They are really easy to make although I do think they were a little too chocolaty, so next time I might cut back on or omit the chocolate chips. They are very tasty though, and of course they were a huge hit with the kids!

It was fun to bake all day, I usually don't get a chance to make so many treats, but the holidays give me just the excuse I need. I have a few more recipes to try, I need to squeeze as many in as I can, because after Christmas I wont have any reason to make this stuff. Unless I can find some volunteers to eat it for me?!?!
