Aimee did this a couple weeks back, and I thought it would be fun to capture our day in pictures. I am very detail oriented, so get settled in now :)
After a long night with Row (she usually wakes up 1-3 times a night, and Matthew is hearing impaired between the hours of 11pm and 7am) the alarm wakes us up too early, as usual.
After I stumble to the kitchen, I start my pot of coffee. This is usually the only coffee I will drink during the day, unless its a Wednesday and we are meeting Aimee for our weekly coffee shop date. I am trying to kick the soda habit, so this is my caffeine kick in the morning.
I did this:
while trying to mess with the thermostat and figure out why we had no heat this morning. Turns out, the pilot light on the furnace was out. How that happened, I have no idea. Hopefully its not going to be a regular occurrence. Matthew (my night in shining pajamas) fixed it, and soon we were bathed in warmth.
I usually wake Killian up at 7:00, and he eats oatmeal or waffles or toast while I check email and dink around on the computer. I try to get Row up around 7:15, give her something quick to eat, and then they head into the bathroom to brush teeth. Check out Rowans bedhead!
After Matthew left for work I loaded the kids in the car to head for school. Actually, Killian loaded up Rowan, she wears slippers in the morning and since the ground was wet, and I am not supposed to lift anything, Killy gave me a hand.
We headed to school, which is about a 15 minute drive. The neighborhood school that Killian should be going to sucks, so we applied for him to stay at the school in our old neighborhood. Nice because its a good school, and his best friend Patrick from our old neighborhood goes there. Sucky because I have to drive to drop him off and pick him up every day. However, I do enjoy the time that we have to chat about all kinds of things on the way there, its nice to be able to connect and then reconnect before and after school.
After dropping him off, Row and I headed home. She watched a Little Einsteins while I showered, and then we both got dressed and ready for the day.
We did some laundry, which never seems to end.
Cleaned the kitchen. Before:
After:
Rowan packed a snack to take with us:
We headed back over to Killian's school to pick him up for a dentist appointment. This kid has so many teeth problems! He hasn't had a cavity since he was 4 (I didn't have dental insurance for him for a couple years, and the poor little guy had to get two fillings and one crown when I finally got it). A few weeks ago Killian thought he broke one of his fillings, so we made the appointment for today. Turns out, he actually broke some TOOTH of off one of his back molars. Damn! The dentist said he thinks Killian grinds and clenches his teeth so hard while he is sleeping that he is weakening them to the point that they break this easily. They did a small filling, and we now have an appointment for the first day of Christmas break to have a crown done back there. Killian did great with it all, and soon we were on our way back to school.
We made a pit stop since Killian missed lunch at school.
Chicken nuggets for everyone! They ate in the car on our way, and after dropping him off, Row and I headed to Costco. We had just a few things to get, but ended up leaving with all this (Michelle...I bought the super size yeast! I see lots of bread in my future!):
Costco is a black hole, I swear. I do love this one close to our house though. Its the biggest in Oregon, and also the "test" store where they stock new products to see how they will sell. They have a LOT of organics here, so we can get organic fruit, oatmeal, snacks, chips and salsa, bread....tons of stuff. We can even get all natural laundry soap and dish soap too.
We filled up with gas on our way home, $1.83.....I cant believe how cheap it is to fill up the car now. I think it was just under $25.00. About half of what it was last summer!
We also stopped at the dollar store, where I sneakily bought some workbooks for Row for Christmas (she loves to pretend that she is home from school, and has homework to do) and a couple odds and ends. The pet store was our last stop to get more kitten food. Once we got home, I made us a popcorn snack, and Row chilled and watched a Backyardigans while Mac and I checked for updates on my favorite blog ;)
This is what I found Rowan doing instead of watching her show. That's Daddies game boy!!
We also took a bag of unsalted peanuts outside to leave some for the neighborhood squirrel. He is a cute little guy, totally unafraid of us and the kids. He can most often be found toolin around my garden, but I have spotted him out in the side yard, and on the roof occasionally. I think he may present a problem to our garden this spring, so I am trying to get on his good side now. We left him a small pile, and when we came back from errands later, the whole pile was gone. Not even a shell was left! Either he or the birds must have been very busy!
Rowan decided she wanted braids before we left:
And then we grabbed another snack:
And headed back to Killian's school yet again. We signed him up for a Mad Science class about space, so once a week he stays after school to build rockets and talk about space. He really loves it, and I am hoping he will think of another activity soon that he would like to do next. Its so good for him to explore his interests, and I like for him to have something he can do without his little sister pestering him. Rowan fell asleep on the way there, and since we were a few minutes early I let her sleep. She looked so darn sweet!
After we got him picked up, we headed to the Hillsboro toy store called Lets Play.
Its a great toy store, lots of natural and imaginative toys, right up our alley. We were there to pick up a few things for one of our favorite boys who just happens to be turning 1 in a few weeks. Times sure flies when little ones are growing up! It was hard to drag the kids out of there, but I managed to get us to Fred Meyer to get a shipping box (it will get there soon Mike and Kami!!) and home in time to start dinner. I usually make a menu for a month at a time, but I haven't gotten around to making Decembers yet so I pulled together a few things that we already had and settled on oven BBQ chicken, red beans and rice, and homemade cornbread muffins. Since my buttermilk was about to expire, I decided to make a few batches of homemade waffles to freeze for the kids breakfasts at the same time. Rowan alternated between helping me:
And playing on Disney.com:
She has just recently mastered the fine art of computer navigation, and she wants to spend all her time on the computer either playing games or typing emails (typing in a word doc). I don't let her on here nearly as much as she wants, so its always a treat for her and sure to keep her occupied. While I was making dinner Killian did his homework:
Matthew watched the basketball game:
And Killian and Daddy got together to check out the rocket he had built in Space class.
Dinner is served:
After dinner, I put in more laundry (it never ever ends here) and then turned our room from this:
To this:
Weird I know, but I (we) rarely ever make the bed during the day. This was at 7:00 at night, and it was still in shambles. In fact, we usually make the bed around 10:30 at night, just in time to climb in and mess it all up again.
I caught Killian riding Rowans pink pony:
Keeping this for future girlfriends for sure. They also traded basketball cards, had an eraser throwing contest and in general got all wound up while I finished cleaning the house and Matthew finished watching his game. Then it was time for snack, so they piled back into the kitchen and had, what else, waffles for snack. They drew some picture while they ate:
And then it was off to bed. They brushed teeth, got PJ's on, and we all met up in Rowans room to read a book.
Then it was bedtime for both, around 8:00. Rowan is "supposed" to go to sleep then, but she has been having a really rough time lately, and didn't fall asleep until about 9:05:
Killian gets to read in his room for 30-60 minutes every night after family reading time and he usually regulates it pretty well on his own, turning off the light and going to sleep when he is ready.
That’s it! What a long day, although looking back, its fairly typical for us. Its past 10:00 now, Matthew is watching Hero's, when I am done blogging I will check email and other blogs I read for an update, and then at about 10:15 we will start our DVR recording of KGW's new's. When 10:30ish rolls around, we get ready for bed, hit the hay, and get ready for another great day. I hope you enjoyed our day in pictures, because I am thoroughly exhausted!
