A little news

Matthew and I met with the pulmonologist today and got a mixed bag of news. The good news first, he doesn't think the lesion is cancerous, which was my number one concern. He thinks its unlikely because of my age, and because I haven't "smoked enough". Never thought I would hear that from a doctor! What he thinks is wrong is complicated. He says that sometimes lesions like mine are the result of a congenital abnormality in the lung. Basically when my little ol' lungs were being formed way back in the womb something went wrong, and an area of my lung didn't form properly. He thinks that I have had this little patch (its about 2 inches in diameter right now) my whole life, but that its just never gotten infected before. Apparently, once those kind of cells are infected, they have a hard time getting better on their own, and left untreated would turn into a raging infection. So, the plan is for me to take antibiotics for the next 10 days, and then on the 28th of this month, I will go back for another chest xray and appointment with him to go over the results. If the lesion is gone, that's great and we don't need to do anything, although there's a chance it will rear up again later in life. If its not gone, then he said the only thing to do would be to surgically remove it. He also said that there is no such thing as an easy chest surgery...they are all very painful. I am hopeful that I can avoid that, and that the antibiotics will clear it up and I can forget the whole thing ever happened. Its going on 2.5 months now, and I am ready for my good health to return! I've been missing it...
