Home at last! After 6 days in the hospital, I was released to come home on Wednesday afternoon. This has been an extremely difficult time for my family, and I am so happy to finally be home with them again. However, things continue to be really rough for us/me. I was not expecting things to be so hard, and to be so completely incapable of doing things for myself. I cant get up from the couch without help, I cant shower or dry off after by myself, I cant even put on my own pants without help! Anything that stretches or twists the right side of my torso causes extreme pain, even with the pain meds I am on. Its been so hard. I am hopeful that I will just slowly keep getting better, day by day. Today I was able to walk to the mailbox with Matthews help, although I was completely done for when we got back. Just getting up to go to the bathroom wears me out, the surgeon said it would be about 4 weeks before I could do simple tasks without losing my breath. But walking and spending as much time sitting up and doing breathing exercises is an important part of my recovery, so I am determined to go for a small walk every day and keep getting stronger, even if it takes me a while. I am still hurting so much, the pain has really been unbelievable. I have never in my life felt pain like this, my body is swollen and bruised, from the inside out. I will work on a post about my hospital stay, but I am just not quite up to typing that much yet. It was...eventful. Definitely not as smooth as it was supposed to be!
We have had such wonderful help from some of our friends and family...the kindness has really been overwhelming! Mike and Kami helped us out tremendously by coming down from Washington Thursday night and staying all the way until Monday. They took the kids to movies, the zoo, did crafts and baked with them, and really were able to keep their minds off of their mama being at the hospital. Because of Mike and Kami, Matthew was able to come and spend a lot of time with me, and having the help with the kids at home helped so much with his stress level. Mike and Kami...we owe you guys big time! Words aren't enough to tell you how much this meant to all of us! Aimee and her family have been amazing as well, visiting me in the hospital, bringing me loads of magazines to read to pass the time, and best of all...bringing us delicious dinners so that a couple nights a week, we don't have to worry about cooking or clean up. It has been a huge help to us, and I know that without their love and help, it would have been much more difficult for us to get through this. My dear friend Sarah helped keep my spirits up by visiting and calling every day. Matthews sister Michelle helped us out on Monday when there was no school by watching both the kids for us! Killy and Row had a blast with them, its been so good for the kids to have people they love around during this difficult time. I feel really grateful for all th ehelp, I cant imagine going through this without it!
So, I am going to get busy healing!! I will try to keep the blog updated as we go through appointments and have more information to share. Thanks again for everyone's love and well wishes, we are going to get through this and come out on top!
