Usually we take the chicks out one at a time for their nightly pet and play. When they were smaller we would just hold them over the tote, but as they are getting bigger, its easier to just sit them on our lap or the floor. Last night Matthew and I sat down with the kids and one by one the chicks ended up out of their tote until all 5 were loose on the floor! I thought it would be Matthews worst nightmare, chickens free in the house, but he was cool with it...until the poop started dropping. Then it was straight back to the tote for the girls! Now I have two lids over their cage because they are so good at jumping up to the rim of the tote. Its one thing to have them out when we want them out, but it would be another thing entirely to have them roaming loose in the house when we didn't expect it!
Our whole weekend is going to be dedicated to getting the coop done, because they really need to get outside. They are stiiiiinky! I just changed all their bedding again yesterday and already today my house smells like chicky poo. I have a friend coming over tomorrow who has never seen our house, and I am so embarrassed at what it smells like. I will have to light some candles or something!
Also, another chick got a name last night. Our little escape artist shown in the last post is now called "Indianee". We were trying to come up with a good adventurer name, and Indianee is what Rowan calls Indiana Jones. It fits our chick perfectly. While everyone was on the floor content to stay in one place, she was climbing us, trying to escape to the kitchen, and she is the one who managed to scale the side of the tote without using the food to jump off of. She is sure a handful!
