Because I am having yet another surgery. I wonder if they are regretting giving us coverage yet!?!?
The first time I met with the lung surgeon, he reviewed my CT/PET scan, and the first thing he asked me was "Whats this thing in your sinuses"? I was shocked, and asked "What thing in my sinuses"? I hadn't been having any trouble or pain at all. He talked to the radiologist, and the radiologist thought that it was just a cyst, which is apparently a common thing to have in your sinuses. Who knew?!? However, once he did the surgery, and found out I had more than one type of cancer, he wasn't so sure that the cyst wasn't related. He referred me to an ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat doctor) who I saw today. Here's the scoop. While he doesn't think its cancerous, there is really no way to tell unless he goes in and takes it out. He said that the surgery is a day surgery, and his part only lasts about 30 minutes, although since I have to be put to sleep, the whole thing would probably take closer to 1 and a 1/2 hours. There aren't many risks, I would just have to take it easy for a couple weeks after, make sure not to bend my head down or strain in any way, and I would have to flush my sinuses out daily. I would be back on pain meds, but probably only for a few days. He left it up to me, saying it was a "grey area" and if I would feel better with it out then we could go ahead and do it. I said sign me up. While I certainly don't want another surgery right now, this one if pretty low on the pain scale, and I would like the reassurance that its not cancerous. He also said that while some can go away, others can continue to grow bigger. After talking to him, I did notice that its harder for me to breath out of the left side than the right. Reason being...this thing is huge! Well, he called it moderate, but it fills up about 2/3 of my sinus cavity! Here is a picture I found on google that is very similar to my CT scan image. The nose bone goes down the middle from the top, and on each side is a black pocket. Notice the one on the left is mostly filled with grey? That's the cyst! Mine is a smidgen smaller than that one, but not by much.

Isn't it crazy the things that can be going on in your body that you have no idea about? Crazy.....and scary. So I opt to have it taken out, and my surgery will be Friday the 20th. Just 5 weeks after my last one, I hope this isn't going to be a trend!!
