Saturday we held our first Easter egg hunt at the house...it was tons of fun. We had close to 200 eggs to hide, which took the adults about 15 minutes to hide, and the kids about 3 minutes to find! They had a great time racing around, and all ended up with full or nearly full buckets of goodies! I only got a few pictures, those kids moved fast!

After the hunt, we all came inside and the kids sorted through their eggs. A few parents had put money in the eggs, much to the delight of the kids. They had a great time counting money and trading candy with each other. We had lots of other sugar filled goodies to eat too. Killian and Rowan made some Easter cupcakes:

And Michelle made the most amazing cake! It was called a rainbow cake, and its made with white cake mix and....7-up! The strangest combination, but it was really good, and looked cooler than any cake I have ever seen. Check it out:

I think the kids (and adults) had a really fun time, and I for sure want to do it again next year! After everyone left, I was thinking about how lucky we are to have such a great group of people to raise our children with. When I was growing up, we didn't have any family (aunts, uncles, cousins) and my parents had no friends that they did anything with, outside of work. So we never had other kids over or family gatherings or anything like that. Its one thing that I have always wanted for my kids, to have a group of family and friends to grow up with. I really believe in the "it takes a village to raise a child" philosophy. I think kids really benefit from having a number of adults and other children to learn from. I also think its so important for kids to see how adult relationships and friendships work, so they have a better basis for their own friendships (which can no doubt be really tough and confusing when you are young). I also like the idea of them having other adults that they feel close too that they could confide in if they didn't want to talk to Matthew and I. I really feel like we finally have that now, a great big extended family made up of friends, family and neighbors for our children to grow up with. We are at such a great point in our lives, and I am finding myself more and more thankful for my family, and the people that we love. Life is good!
