Halfway there

Matthew and I worked on the chicken coop most of the day today, and I am really proud of how well we are doing! Neither of us have ever built anything like this before, and at first it was a little daunting, but we have totally found our groove. After a small hiccup early in the day, we have really been working together well, coming up with lots of ideas and plans together, and really having a lot of fun with this. We got most of the coop done today, and will just have to finish the doors, roosts and the run tomorrow. Here is the front:

There will be two doors on the front that open for cleaning. This is the side view:

The run will be attached to this side, and hole will be a door on hinges. We will also build a little ramp from the door to the ground. The run will be a total of 12 feet by 4 feet. Here is the back view:

That's our egg retrieval door! Its hinged to the roof, and the nesting boxes will be back here, so we just have to lift this portion up to have access to the eggs. We actually spend the most time working on the roof, getting it nice and tight. There was a lot of trial and error here, let me just say that building stuff like this isn't as easy as it looks! I am hopeful that tomorrow we can finish the coop, and the run in the morning, because its supposed to be 70 degrees and I want to get some garden time in too!
