For a few weeks now Matthew has been reading books and websites about making beer and gathering a lot of information. He decided that he wanted to give it a try, and it turns out there is a home brew beer and wine store right here in Hillsboro so we headed down there today to check stuff out. Its like a man cave in there! Lots and lots of guys, mostly around our age, buying tubes and bottles, scooping and measuring grains, debating the quality of certain hops. The kids and I stuck out like sore thumbs, but it was interesting to watch everyone in action. People are VERY passionate about their home brews! Matthew hooked up with the owner, an incredibly knowledgeable guy who gathered all the supplies we will need, and showed him a dry run of what brewing the beer will entail. Seemed to me that there were tons of complicated steps, but Matthew took it all in and wasn't intimidated at all. For under $200, we are now the proud owners of all the home brew equipment one could ever need (except bottles) and enough ingredients to brew our very own batch of Hefeweizen beer. And by we, I mean Matthew. I am just here to taste test!

I think its going to be really fun to have our own homemade beer, and I think its super cool that Matthew has found an interest that he wants to pursue. He is pretty cute when he gets all excited about something new :) He is going to start the batch tomorrow, and it should be done in about 3 weeks or so...stay tuned!
