We got our garden tilled on Tuesday night, and it looks so great! It only took the guy an hour and he went over each area at least two times. Matthew and I were so impressed with how well it turned out....doesn't it just make you want to get in there and plant something?

We have a busy weekend ahead of us, but we are going to try to get to the nursery and get at least a few plants in the ground this weekend. We can plant a lot of stuff now, but things like peppers, tomatoes, melons and cucumbers will need to wait for warmer weather. I got a flyer in the mail from a nursery near us called Farmington Gardens, and I think we will get most of our plants there this year. I like that they are a local place, and a "big box" store like Home Depot or Fred Meyer (who have inferior quality plants anyways) and they also know exactly what grows when in this area, since they are just a few miles from us. They have a gardening blog, check it out here.
Our chickens are also doing really well! They are growing so big, its really interesting to watch their personalities start to show. Freckles, our favorite in the house, has become a flighty wench who is very hard to catch. She seems to not want human contact at all, which is a bummer since she was so sweet before. Indy, who has always been our little adventurer has me worried that she could possibly turn out to be a he. Which would be devastating because we wouldn't be able to keep her/him, and she/he really is my very favorite. She is the first to come up to the door to be let out, is super easy to catch and seems to enjoy being handled, and is still very adventurous. She is also very aware of what is going on, and seems to lead/protect the flock, which makes me question the gender status. I am crossing my fingers that she is indeed a she!
I let them all out every morning, and they have free run of the yard....but they always stay within 15 feet of their coop! Most of the time they are in this corner, or on the other side between the coop and the deck. They have never once crossed over past the deck on their own. Which is actually kinda nice, as it keeps the poop all in one place!

Here they are all together. Back row, left to right is Freckles, Indianee, and Chimmy. Front is Omelet on the left, and Scrappy on the right.

Sweet little Indy:

Notice her cheek feathers! All of them are starting to grow them, along with fluffy little beards under their beaks, but Indy's are the biggest so far! They are so much fun to watch and have around, and I am really glad that its working out just leaving them outside to roam during the day. I was really worried they would be trying to get up on fences and stuff, but they seem pretty content. I will be learning how to clip their flight feathers though...just in case!
