This weekend it was finally time to bottle Matthews first batch of homemade beer! First he ran all the bottles through the dishwasher to sanitize them. Then he got out his handy dandy siphon and siphoned the beer from the bottle its been sitting in for the last two weeks, back into the bucket it started out in:

Then he put the bucket full of beer on the counter, and started the siphon again, this time attached to a bottle filler. Its a cool little devise, when he puts it in the bottle and pushes down, the beer flows into the bottle, and when he released pressure, the beer stops flowing.

It was my job to cap the bottles, with this little doo dad:

It has a magnet in the middle that the bottle caps sticks to, and then you position it on the bottle and push down, and the sides of the cap get squeezed to the bottle top, sealing it up. It was pretty fun once I got the hang of it.
All in all, we bottled 49 bottles of beer! It looked pretty impressive lined up on the counter:

Now, for the best flavor, the beer should sit in the bottles for at least another week, maybe two. But we couldn't wait that long, and sampled a little bit that was left after bottling. It was GOOD! The carbonation hadn't quite kicked in (part of the reason to let it sit in the bottle for a while) and it was warm, but it was quite tasty. The countdown is now one, I cant wait to have our first cold, homemade beer!
