Camping at Nehalem Bay

Last weekend we went camping at Nehalem Bay with Aimee and her family. I was a little worried on the way there, because the weather had called for mostly rain the two days that we were going to be there. I was pleasantly surprised though, we had a little rain Sunday evening, and a little Monday morning, but nothing too bad. It also helped that we were staying in Yurts, which came equipped with heaters that we took advantage of that night.

I thought this was the perfect campground. The yurts were spaced pretty well, and had a cool little forested area right behind them for the kids to play in. The bathrooms were close, and the beach was a short walk away. After we got there and unloaded, we took a walk to the beach to play in the sand. Here is Killian showing off his muscles:

And a shot of all the kids. They were moving so fast I am surprised to have gotten them all in one shot!

Later we took a walk to the amphitheater and the kids rocked out. Killian and Rowan have been very into making the "rock on sign" as you can see:

After a short walk we headed back to the beach to watch the sun set. On the way, Aimee found ferns and made the kids these cute little headbands.

Don't let those innocent smiles fool you, they are all little heathens in disguise:

The sunset was really pretty, the pictures don't do it any justice:

After the sun moved behind the last clouds, we headed back to the yurts to make smores. Killian likes them big and gooey!

We all got a sugar rush from the marshmellowy goodness:

We stayed up until about midnight, so when the sun rose before 6am, and the light poured through the top of the yurt, nobody felt like they had got enough sleep. But up and at em we were, and we had breakfast around 8am. Shortly after that everyone went their separate ways, and as we headed back home we made a stop just before Canon beach and saw this awesome cave:

It was so neat looking, you could see the waves coming from the back and crashing into the front. I would LOVE to have checked this out, but we didn't see any beach access anywhere close. We did stop a little further up in Canon beach and played in the sand for a while before we finished driving home. I am hoping to make a day trip back here this summer and get a chance to check out that cave!

All in all, it was a fun weekend. My favorite part was seeing how happy the kids were. Row and Killians eyes were lit up with excitement and happiness the whole time, and I loved seeing them run around without a care in the world. To me, this is what childhood is made of, and I am so happy that they will grow up with memories and experiences like this. Next year I would like to go a couple times, so I am going to have to start thinking about reservations in November to make sure we can do it. I am already looking forward to it!
