Last summer Aimee and I took our biggest boys to see the rodeo in ST. Paul Oregon, and we headed back this year for more rope em, ride em fun. On our way to our seats, we passed these big guys:

Whatever possessed the first bull rider to jump on the back of one of these beasts I will never understand. But it makes for good entertainment! We also saw this even bigger fellow...more on him later:

They started out with riding broncos, which is pretty amazing to watch, but then they started with the bulls and you have never felt a longer 8 seconds. Those guys are amazing. This guy was one of my favorites, and I think he was one of the highest scores of the night.
Coming out of the gate:

Ride cowboy, ride!

Then there was this guy, who didn't last long, but makes for a great picture...they really fly off those bulls!

Remember those buffalo? They brought two of them out, and did some little skit about the history of buffalo.

Then they brought out.....the One Armed Bandit, the only man who was brave/crazy enough to try to wrangle two wild buffalo!!

Only, they weren't so wild after all, cause he got one to do this:

And then this:

And THEN he got up there with them and really showed them who was boss!

It was a little hokey, but also really cool to watch. Who knew it was possible to train a buffalo? They are amazing animals, so big and stocky...I cant image how thrilling it must have been for Indians hunting them way back in the day.
They did a few more things, like wild cow milking, saddling wild horses and then trying (hilariously) to "lead" them to the gate (most of the cowboys ended up getting bucked off in a hurry) and barrel racing. It was really fun, and I am sure we will be heading back next year. Now if only I could get Matthew in wranglers and a cowboy hat....yee-haw!
