Matthew and I took the kids apple picking this morning to a local place called Jossy Farms. Its where the kids and I went to get peaches, and where we will be going back to get more peaches and then pears in a few weeks. I love this place! Clean fields, short trees, easy picking and helpful staff. We have a great time there!
Today we picked Gravenstein apples, the first apple of the season. Its a tart apple, not the best for storing or fresh eating (unless you really like tart apples!) but its reportedly the best for applesauce and canning. The apples were huge - Rowans hands look so small holding this one!

The kids had fun doing a tree to box relay:

While Matthew took the more conservative approach and brought the box to the apples:

Killian's big apple:

The end result - 51 pounds of apples in less that 20 minutes!

I am making applesauce today, and in the next few days I will try my hand at apple pie filling and apple butter. I am so happy that apple season is here again!
