I am way behind on blogging! We have been getting large harvests from the garden in the last month, with even bigger ones to come. I am keeping track of what makes it into the house in a column to the right side of the blog- a lot of veggies get eaten right off the vine by the kids, or are given to neighbors or friends before I can record them. So we are pretty happy with what we are getting, although I have seen a lot of things we can change to get an even bigger harvest next year!
Oldest first, we picked some Romanesco before we left on our Spokane trip. It was good - but not as delicious as I had anticipated. It had a mild broccoli flavor, with the texture of cauliflower. The heads were much smaller than I thought they would be too. It sure was beautiful though:

We have been harvesting a lot of cucumbers, the peas finally came through for us, before succumbing to powdery mildew and being ripped out last night. Tomatoes have really started ripening the last two weeks, we have picked 5 large tomatoes and countless cherry tomatoes. The big tomatoes are the best I have ever had - there is just nothing that compares to the taste of a tomato right fresh from the garden! We are also starting to get quite a few carrots out of the garden, which the kids rinse off with the hose and eat right away. Its so great to see them getting so much enjoyment out of the garden, as well the health benefits for them. I hope they grow up to love gardening! We also harvested our first sugar baby watermelon last night - we are going to eat it with dinner tonight, I am so excited to taste it! Here are some pictures of just a few of our harvests over the past month:
