The kids and I went and picked the last peaches of the season today, at least for us! The orchard said they would only have them through the end of the week, so we wanted to get them while they were still available! We picked 52 pounds of Veteran peaches, which I think are my favorite of the two kinds I have picked. The Red Havens were wretchedly hard to get off the pit, while the Veterans slide off like they have been buttered. They are really easy to work with, so that makes them my favorite :) I will have to see what we like better taste wise when we start opening the jars.
The kids helped by holding down the wagon and snacking on peaches:

Killian made a funny comment as I was picking (and him and Rowan were sitting in the wagon). I asked him if he was going to bring his kids to U-pick when he had them, and he said "Probably". Then he laughed and said "And I am going to put them to work"!!! Lol. I asked him if that's what I should do with him, and he said "No no no"!!! My kids like to do everything but pick fruit when we go u-picking!
The peaches on the dining room table - every time I walk by I get a big whiff of sweet smelling peach! I wish that I could bottle it up, it smells so good.

My main plan for these is to can them, we have 9 quarts already canned along with a lone pint, and I am hoping I can get twice that out of these peaches. I found a recipe to make peach honey out of the peeled peach skins that I might try, and possibly some peach jam. And of course I have to make a yummy peach dessert - there has to be a light at the end of this busy tunnel!!
