There have been a lot of changes going on around here lately, but I haven't found the time to write about any of them. We have been really busy getting ready for school (it starts in just 2 days!) and trying to enjoy the last days of summer together. For now, I will stick with the physical changes to our house, and catch up with everything else later.
We have lived here for almost a year, but up until recently we haven't really done anything with the house. I got sick shortly after we moved in so lots of things remained in boxes and the house remained unfinished. We have had a little spurt of inspiration and energy these last few weeks, and have finally gotten around to making our house a home! Here is a little before and after tour. All of the before pictures were taken just after we moved in, but other than the Halloween decorations and moving boxes, the rooms have remained largely unchanged since then.

In here I would like to get a bigger darker wood table and chairs, as well as a buffet to go along the right wall under the pictures. We will eventually get a new light fixture too, the one up there if pretty but doesn't let a lot of light shine through.

We just got these couches off of Craigs list, and paid only $200 for them! They are the most comfortable couches I have ever had, and we just love them. The wall unit we got at Ikea last spring, and have slowly been filling it up with pictures and treasures. We are going on Monday to look for new end tables for this room. I would also like to get a few more pictures up in here, and do some decorating on the mantle.

The before of this room cracks me up! We didn't have anything to go back there, so it was a catch all for unmatched and miscellaneous stuff. We bought a couple more bookshelves (Ikea again!) and moved our old leather couch back here to give the kids a place to sit if they have friends over and want to watch TV or play video games. That's Matthews batch of blueberry porter fermenting between the bookshelves. There isn't anything major I want to change back here, maybe just adding a few more personal touches, something on the walls, and a rug would be nice.
I am really pleased with how our house is starting to come together! It feels more cozy to me and as I walk from room to room I am reminded by just how much I love living here.
