Cookies + Ice cream sundaes = FUN!

Friday afternoon Kami and I made Halloween sugar cookies with the kids. They had a great time helping to measure, pour, and mix. It was the first time Sophia had ever used a mixer, and even though she was a little nervous at first she tried it and found she really liked it.

Rowan got in on the mixing action too:

The kids picked out their own cookie cutters, and we tried to get some cookies cut out:

We ran into some problems though - the dough was to sticky to keep its shape. We left it in the fridge for 30 minutes like the recipe said to do, but it was still impossible to work with. After over an hour in the fridge, we were finally able to get some cookies cut out. By that time the kids had headed outside to play, so Kami and I cut the cookies really quick, and then had the kids come in to decorate them. I need to remember next time to make the dough in advance!

The kids used a LOT of sprinkles, and their cookies came out really cute. While we were digging through our cookie cutter stash I found a bunch of Autumn shapes so I think we will have Sophia over again next month to make some more cookies. The kids really like being able to get creative while decorating their cookies!

Later that night we made ice cream sundaes with the kids:

I had some glasses that a friend gave me that I thought would be perfect to have sundaes in. I think the kids appreciated that "restaurant" feel....it made it seem a little more special. They were very yummy, and of course loaded with every topping they could fit! It was a fun, sugar filled day, and we all had a lot of fun!
