Picking the perfect pumpkin

I have been a little sad this year thinking about pumpkin patching since I learned that my all time favorite patch wasn't going to be open. I have been to almost all of the patches in the area, and haven't ever found one as good as that one. Not sure where we would go I googled Oregon pumpkin patches and looked through the list. All the ones in this area we had been too, and I was about to give up and settle for one I didn't love when I found a listing for Heiser Farms Pumpkin Patch. The boys were sold on going there as soon as they found out there would be pumpkin cannons! Its about an hour drive from our house, but it looked like it was going to be worth it. It was! I am so glad we went, the kids had a great time, and Matthew declared it his favorite pumpkin patch EVER! We are going to take friends and family back with us next year, its a great place!

I don't know what this cutout was supposed to look like, but Rowan makes it look pretty funny with her mean face!

There were a ton of activities for the kids; hay mazes, a huge slide, a hay pyramid, a pumpkin bouncy house, pony rides, and rubber ducky races! The kids enjoyed running from place to place and stopped for a minute to race ducks:

They practiced being future farmers:

And then we took a ride on Ferdinand the fire truck and the kids got free helmets:

They had the best time riding the truck down the hill with the siren and lights going! Rowan thought this was the neatest thing she had ever done, and was smiling ear to ear the whole ride. It was very cute!

My cute little firefighters:

After the firetruck, we walked over to a field to watch a fireman water fight. It was crazy! There were two teams, each with a huge water hose that they used to move a balloon type thing that was strung above them on a wire. It was basically a huge tug of war, but with water hoses!

It ended up being a tie, and since we had more to see we only watched that one water fight. They were still at it when we left 3 hours later so those poor firefighters must have been soaked!

As we were walking back to catch the hayride, I couldn't help but take a picture of this house. It must have been the owners house, and I thought it was just beautiful:

I would love to have a house like this someday, nestled on acres of beautiful countryside. I would love the front porch so much, sitting outside watching the world pass by with hot cup of coffee....sounds perfect to me!

On the way to the hayride, Rowan made a new friend. She was so scared of skeletons and other "scaries" last Halloween, so its neat that she is completely unafraid this year!

Once we got to the field, we decided to do the corn maze before finding pumpkins. It was the biggest corn maze we have ever been in, and we got hopelessly lost. Finally we made it out - the entrance! Oh well, better that than wandering aimlessly forever!

The kids found their perfect pumpkins, which I cant believe I didn't get a picture of! They choose ones with "flames" (part green and part orange pumpkins) and were pretty pleased with themselves. Hunting for the perfect pumpkin:

Here they are waiting for the hayride back on a giant hay spider:

My pretty girl riding back to the barn:

And finally....pictures of the pumpkin cannons! There were 4 of them, and they shot pumpkins close range at cars, a trailer and a van, but also waaaaaay high up in the sky. They were so cool to watch! Here are the cannons all lined up:

When we were off having fun, they were shooting at this trailer. It was destroyed by the time we got back! The front:

And the back!

They haven't touched the van yet, but look at those cars!

This is the van after two shots - its amazing how hard those pumpkins hit!

Finally, here are some short videos of the cannons in action! I had to cut the last one short so it would fit on here, but you get the idea of how far those pumpkins were flying!
