Baby Harlow!

We have been talking as a family about the pro's and con's of getting another pet for weeks now, and going to shelters nearly every weekend to check out possible candidates. I think in the past we were wowed by the cuteness of the kittens, but didn't wait to find one with the right personality. This time we really took our time, placing many cats and kittens back in their cages, after feeling that it just wasn't right. We had decided to get a cat, not having had the best of luck with kittens in the past. But those babies are sure hard to resist, so we checked out plenty of those too. Saturday we decided to go check out the shelter near our house again, and see what they had. The kids and I were checking out the cats (none fit what we wanted) and the kittens (they were all so cute) when Matthew called us over to a bottom cage in the corner. And into our lives walked Harlow. Just 2 months old, she was alone in her cage and looking so sweet that we decided to check her out. We instantly all fell in love with her. We discussed it together, and decided to go ahead and adopt her. I am so glad that we did! She is the best cat/kitten we have ever had. She is sweet, very mellow, not scared by the in and out of kids and friends all day long, and very very cute. At night she sleeps curled up between Matthew and I on our pillows, and she purrs like a motorboat all night long. I hadn't realized how much I missed that comforting sound of a kitties purr! During the day, she is usually attached at the hip to Matthew, she has really taken a liking to him. Anytime I cant find her, I find Matthew and there she is:

She also spends a lot of time playing with the kids. She is super gentle with them, no biting or scratching at all. She is very tolerant of Rowan, which is good because while Rowan is super gentle and knows how to hold and pet her the right way, she is also still a 3 year old who wants to carry Harlow around everywhere she goes. We are working on convincing Rowan that Harlow can walk all by herself ;) Harlow comes when she is called already, so either she is used to her name (they named her at the shelter) or she just really wants to be where her people are. Its so nice having another animal around the house again, after the chickens left we have really been missing that in our lives. I cant wait to watch Harlow grow up!
