Shrooms!

Today the kids and I took a walk around our yard, and the islands in our cul de sac and found so many different kinds of mushrooms! I was really surprised at the variety that we have in such a small area of land. Here are some of my favorites:

These are the most brilliant red/orange color - the brightest of all the mushrooms we saw today. They were my favorite because of their color and size, and because of how neat they looked pushing up out of the ground. They were growing on one of the cul de sac islands:

We found this little colony over by our mailbox:

Looks like something snacked on some of these ones!

Another colony on the island, these ones looked very dainty:

We found these in a shady area of our backyard...at first glance they look like a bunch of fallen leaves!

These monsters are pushing up under the big fir tree in the backyard:

These were about 15 feet away, growing next to a tree stump near our back deck. I cant tell if they are the same as the ones above, they are certainly smaller:

This one was the funkiest one that we saw! I love the lines and coloring. We found it very close to the back deck:

We have quite a few of these growing in the back where the chickens used to be. They are very slimy looking, and get very mushy when accidentally stepped on. I liked how there was a little puddle of water and a leaf trapped in the middle of the mushroom:

Hurray for mushrooms! They are one of my favorite signs that fall has indeed arrived!
