Not a moment to spare

It feels like we have been so busy lately...but when I look back at the last few weeks I cant really say what exactly we have been so busy doing! Its just been a jumble of random things that are filling up our days. We have been doing quite a lot of spring cleaning. When I packed up the Christmas stuff it felt so good to get it out of the house that I kept going, purging and cleaning and organizing. We got a lot of useless clutter cleared out of the house, and that always feels good. Growing up in a house with a hoarder makes one want to keep things nice and tidy around their own home! I still need to clean the garage...again! Seems like I do a deep clean of that place every few months, and I have no idea how it gets filled up again. Part of it is the kids playing out there, they drag a bunch of toys and stuff out to build forts and play areas, and then "forget" to put it all back. A mothers work is never done :)

We have also been making some big lifestyle changes with the goal of getting healthy!! Matthew and I started a workout program using our Wii, and a game called EA Sports Active. Its A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! The first couple days I was so sore that I could barely walk, but I have found my rhythm now and am doing more intense workouts and feeling really good about it. I plan to continue with that 5-6 days a week, and I have also signed up for a pilates class that starts at the end of this month. I am really excited about it, its been a long time since I took a pilates class, but I can still remember how good it felt to stretch so much, finding all sorts of muscles that I didn't even know I had. After that's done, I am looking into taking a hula hooping class! There is a woman on Matthews team at work who teaches them, she is a professional hula hooper - making her own hoops and traveling around the country to do performances. I have seen a couple videos of hoopers in action, and its amazing to watch. Its more than the hula hooping you did in gym class - they teach it as a connection between mind and body, and as a way to get in touch with your inner spirit. I like the sound of that! So I am looking forward to that class, and also considering looking into a belly dancing class in the future. I like the idea of learning something new and getting a good workout in!

The kids have been joining us for some of the workouts, which makes for a very crowded, but fun living room. Rowan is so cute when its just her and I at home exercising. She is full of all sorts of encouragement "Go mama, you are doing great" and looks so sweet jogging along next to me. I think its pretty cool that they are getting inspired by it too. Its funny, and maybe just a coincidence, but the last couple days I have seen them wanting to go outside and ride bikes and in general be more active than they had wanted to be the last few months. It could be just that we are having a few days without rain, but I am pleased to see them active either way!

I have also been reading a lot...so much that my head is starting to feel cluttered with so much new information. With spring coming up, and with us having so many goals for this years garden, I have been checking out stacks of books from the library. Some things that I am reading about right now are preserving food, herb gardens, growing veggies, beekeeping, rabbits, and composting. I feel like they are all intertwined, and I have enjoyed learning so many new things. More on that in another post!

Rowan is getting ready for her upcoming birthday, and she asks nearly everyday if today is her birthday party day. She is VERY excited to turn 4, but lately it feels like she should be turning 14 instead! She has developed some sort of horrible affliction affecting her hearing. At any given moment, she becomes completely unable to follow directions, listen to us when we are talking to her, or do what we ask her to do.....I am hoping that this "hearing loss" is going to be short lived because it is beyond frustrating for Matthew and I!

Yesterday I got Killian signed up for a bowling class through the rec center, he is really excited about it. I read the whole list of options to him, everything from drawing to boxing to science classes. He chose bowling, so once a week we be hitting the local bowling alley and learning a few tricks. He will probably beat the pants off his dad and I next time we go family bowling...I bet he is looking forward to that :)
