During spring break we got together with an old family friend who took the kids and I out to lunch and to the theater to see Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I have known Jeanne since I was 3 years old, she was our next door neighbor in the house I grew up in. She sold her house about 10 years ago, and of course all of my family has moved out of our house, but Jeanne and I have stayed in touch. I go to her house a couple times a month to help her with housecleaning and yard work, because she is in her mid 70's now and things are harder for her to do alone. I have grown a lot closer to her over the last year, and she is enjoying spending more time with the kids, she doesn't have any of her own so mine are like her grand kids. Perfect for Killian and Rowan since they don't have any other grandparents in their life! She has also become something of a surrogate mother to me, and its means a lot to me to have someone in that role.
We had a wonderful time with her at the movies, and since it was her treat, I asked the kids to make her thank you cards. Killian wanted me to take pictures to show to Matthew since he was working late that night, and even posed his Wimpy Kid book in the picture:

I thought he did a great job drawing the character, and he wrote a little message on the front thanking Jeanne for taking him to see the movie.
Rowan picked a blank note card to send - I wrote on a separate piece of paper what she wanted to say and then she copied the words down. I thought she did a great job:

The picture at the bottom is the table and all of us sitting down to lunch. Jeanne had also bought the kids some books, so Rowan wanted to make sure to say thank you for those too. I like having the kids write out their own thank you notes, seems like handwritten notes and cards are a lost art these days! I think they have fun doing it too!
