Doughnuts and bowling

Today was the last official day of Spring Break. I am sad that its over, I have enjoyed having Killian home with us, and we had a lot of fun this week! We went to two movies (Diary of a Wimpy Kid and How to Train Your Dragon), had lunch with the kids adopted "Aunt" Jeanne, checked out Fort Vancouver, had a blast at Rood Bridge with Stephanie and her kids, and spent lots of time playing outside on the days where the sun showed itself.

We decided to do a few special things together on our last vacation day. The kids had been asking to make doughnuts all week, so as soon as we got up we headed into the kitchen and the kids went around getting all the ingredients together. We mixed up the batter, and baked the doughnuts in our special doughnut pan. These don't taste at all like store bought doughnuts, they have more of a cake like texture to them. The kids didn't mind the difference at all, they were just thrilled to be eating something so sweet for breakfast!

The first batch we dipped in cinnamon and sugar:

And the second batch was dipped in glaze:

After the kids were sufficiently sugared up, we took them out to play a few games of bowling at our local bowling alley. Killian took a bowling class about a month ago through the rec center, and he really enjoyed it. He got pretty good, and was eager to show off his skills to his dad. Some blurry pictures of the kids before I figured out I needed the flash on:

We all had such a fun time! I have noticed when we are all out together doing something like this, Killian usually acts extra sweet and patient with Rowan. He kept having her come sit next to him, and was the first one up to help her if she needed a hand. It was really nice, I love seeing that they can enjoy each others company, instead of the squabbling that I seem to be hearing more often nowadays! They really are best friends:

On most of Rowans turns she flung the ball with all her might down the lane, but her little arms don't pack much of a punch, so it was a pretty long wait for the ball to meander down to the pins. On our second game, Killian suggested that she try the ramp. She did and she got a strike! She could not have been more thrilled, she was jumping up and down yelling "Yes, I DID it"!!!

Killian scored almost 100 on both games, but Matthew ended up with the highest score both times. I think with a few more practice sessions Killy is going to give his dad a run for his money!

We had a really fun time today, I love days like this where we can spend so much time together enjoying each others company. I am sad that spring break has come to an end, but summer vacation is now only 2.5 short months away - hopefully the time will fly by and then every day can be a family fun day!
