Happy Earth Day!

My friend Stephanie and I have been planning a pot painting and flower planting play date for a couple weeks, and what better day to do it that Earth day? All our kids were really excited about it...not surprising since it involved two of any kids favorite things; being messy and digging in dirt!

The kids painted their pots first:

Its always fun to see what kids do with a blank canvas like this. Some of them painted the insides, some just painted the outsides. Some did very deliberate lines and pictures, and some did a tie dye of colors. They all had a lot of fun with it!

While the pots dried, we headed down to a park just a few blocks away from Stephanie's house. It was an amazing place! Stephanie told me it used to be an old apple farm before they built the playground and sports fields. She pointed out some of the apple trees that they left, and said that she has never seen anyone coming to harvest the apples and that they are always all over the ground. I know where I am going this fall!! Good apples should never go to waste :)

The playground was awesome, so many cool climbing structures and fun places to swing, spin, and bounce. The weather was beautiful, not too hot, and the kids had a wonderful time.

We played for an hour or so before heading back to the house to plant our seeds. The kids filled their pots with soil, and planted Nasturtiums (an edible flower) and yellow and blue pansies:

What a great way to celebrate Earth day! The kids are excited to watch their flowers grow, and with the pots on the front porch it will be a visual reminder for us of all the fun we had today!
