The garden is coming along, or I should say hanging in there with all this awful weather we have been having. We only had two causalities, our cucumbers gave up under the barrage of rain and we are going to have to replace them. This time last year our plants were huge, and we were seeing a lot more action in the garden. Not so much this year, and its been a little depressing. Some things are loving the cold rainy weather - the potatoes are thriving, the brassicas are all happy and growing, the onions and carrots are doing well, and the peas have really taken off. Other heat loving plants have nothing at all to love right now. The peppers look very unhappy, although we do have lots of flowers, and even a teeny pepper forming. The tomatoes are flowering, but not growing as much as they should be. The corn and pumpkin appear to be stuck, and I am not seeing much growth with them. My first planting of Musque de Provence pumpkin seeds drowned in the rain so I had to restart them. Hopefully we can get a nice streak of super hot weather soon. The garden could really use some days of serious sunshine to get everything kicked into high gear. Here is the garden in pictures...and a few words :)
Freshly hilled potato row - these are all doing great and some have even started flowering!

Romanesco and regular broccoli, and a row of spinach in front:

More romanesco with red cabbage at the far end of the bed:

The lettuce likes the rain! Unfortunately, the slugs like the lettuce :(

Celery is doing great, with some new lettuce starts and shelling peas at the back of the bed:

Another angle, looking at the pea end:

Brussel sprouts are doing fantastic! Bush beans are at the end:

The bush beans - whats funny is that these 4 varieties were all planted on the same day, but are growing at such different rates that they look like a succession planting of the same type of bean:

Sad peppers:

My Musgue de Provence bed, with nothing but lettuce growing around the border. I am hoping my seeds sprout soon!

Long keeper tomato, with shallots and onions at the end:

From the other end, you can see the green bunching onions are doing great:

Corn and mini pumpkins for the kids. We need to plant another batch of corn, but its taken this one so long to get going I am worried if we plant a new batch right now they will mature at the same time and cross pollinate! The slugs have also discovered the tender corn shoots, and I am not sure how well our little patch is going to do this year.

Super sugar snap peas!! They are loving this weather. Plantings of pole beans are on each side of the peas:

They should be ready in a few days!

We have shelling peas between the tomatoes, and they are doing well and forming pea pods too!

The whole garden:

Our first harvest - 3 heads of red cabbage, and some broccoli:

I have such high hopes for this years garden, we are trying so many new things, and I really want to see everything succeed. I am keeping my fingers crossed - the weather forecast last night showed no rain for the next 7 days so hopefully things will really start growing!
