Poker face

One of my favorite things to do last summer was host our monthly game nights for family and friends. We all enjoyed them so much, and have been anxiously waiting for the weather to warm up so we could start them this year. Usually we do board games, but this time we decided to try something new and have a Texas Hold 'Em tournament. There was a $10 buy in per person, and having something to play for sure made it interesting!

We always set out games for the kids to play, but it looks like this little fellow wants to roll with the big guys!

Hey! Where is everyones poker faces? They don't look like they are taking this too seriously...

Ahhhh, now this is more like it! Once the chips started changing hands, people got a little more serious and the poker faces came out:

While the big betting was going on, the kids were finding all sorts of ways to keep themselves entertained. They played board games, climbed around on the play structure, and batted stuff around with badminton rackets. They also got out the chalk and explored their creative sides - I love their artwork!

We had started the game at about 6, and we were down to 6 players by the time it got dark out. Michelle, Jason, Nick, Sarah, and Matthew and I headed inside to continue the game while the kids settled on the couch to hoot and holler over video games. I went out pretty fast (I was surprised to have made it that long since this was my first time every playing), followed by Sarah and Michelle. Suddenly it was a boys game, and they were each amassing quite big piled of chips! In the end it was down to Jason and Matthew, and since it was close to 11:30, they were both ready to finish up the game. In a sudden bold move, Jason and Matthew both went all in....and the hand went to Jason! He walked away with a total of $100!! Not bad for a nights work of beer, laughs and cheese and crackers!
