On the way home from lunch with Sarah last week, the kids and I drove past a little shop called Ceramicafe. It sounded like it might be a paint your own ceramic shop so I looked it up when we got home and sure enough that's what it was. I have been wanting to take the kids to a place like that for a while now, but I hadn't seen any on our side of town. They were interested in checking it out, so we headed back a few days later to see what we could create.
There were all sorts of blank canvases - from platters and mugs to tiles and figurines. Killian saw a little car that he wanted to paint and Rowan was over the moon excited to see a little T-Rex figure. They picked out their paint colors and brushed and got right to work. I helped Rowan paint her dinosaur, she wanted him to be green, with a yellow tummy and purple spots. She did all the spots herself, and had a great time dabbing them on:

Killian painted his car red, with some silver and black accents, and he asked me to paint the number 14 on the side of it (his birthday). He worked really hard on it, there were a lot of little details to be painted:

When they had finished painting, we took their work up to the front to drop off. The shop glazed and fired them, and we got to go pick them up 5 days later:

Rowan was thrilled with her dino, and she has carried it around everywhere we go since we picked it up. We even had to wrap it up in a towel to take to lunch that next week to show to Sarah! She is very proud of it, and keeps saying how the dinosaur was so unhappy living in that store, and how he had just been waiting for her to come and rescue him. How cute! Killian wasn't as happy with his car - if you look close you can see that there is a bit of white showing through the paint. We had done three coats of paint like they said to at the shop, but it probably could have used twice as many. Now we know for next time! The kids and I had a really fun afternoon, I love doing crafty things with them and giving them a chance to get creative!
