A kitten update

Oh dear. I just realized that I have never posted anything about our new kitten after the first post introducing her! I guess that's what happens with the second 'child' :) We have had her about a month and a half now, and she has blended into our family so perfectly. There was a rough period of about a month or so where her and Harlow were finding their groove, and we were really worried that Harlow wasn't going to get along with her. Then one day, they suddenly went from being mortal enemies, to at least tolerating and dare I say, actually liking, each other. Harlow's attitude changed as well, she is now back to the snuggly, affectionate cat that we all love.

We named the kitten Porter, after one of Matthews favorite styles of beer. She is such a pretty little girl, I love all the spots and stripes on her sides and tummy:

Don't let her fool you with that innocent look, she is all kitten and a total bundle of energy. She is so different from how Harlow was when she was a kitten! Harlow has always been really mellow and never got into much trouble. Porter on the other hand, is a total whirlwind of destruction and mischief. She does all the things you expect of a kitten; she scratches where she shouldn't, she climbs and jumps where she doesn't belong, she chews things she has no business chewing, and she finds herself in sticky situations with no way out:

Our bread rising bucket had been sitting on the floor with the lid balanced on top - somehow she managed to jump into it and have the lid land back over the top.....rendering her completely stuck and meowing pitifully:

Lucky for her, she is so darn cute that all (um.....most) of her mischief is met with smile and laughs. The kids totally adore her and shower her with affection all day long. She still sleeps in Killian's room at night, because unlike Harlow who 'slept through the night' as soon as we brought her home, Porter believes that nighttime is the very best time to run around the house like a banshee. If she is in Killian's room with the door shut though, she will sleep soundly all night snuggled up next to him. I think she will definitely end up being "his" cat:

Not to say that she doesn't get along with Rowan - they just have a different relationship. Rowan is the one chasing Porter all around the house, catching her and giving her more love and affection than any kitten could possibly need (or want)! We are constantly reminding Rowan to be gentle with her, but honestly, Porter doesn't seem to mind. She will even seek Rowan out sometimes, to snuggle or just lay next to her.

Porter is turning into quite the snuggly kitty, and we all love having her be part of our family. She certainly makes everyday life a lot more exciting!
