All day long the kids asked when it will be time for trick or treating. There was nothing but excitement as they waited anxiously for time to slowly pass by. Why is it that when you are looking forward to something, it seems to take just shy of forever for it to finally happen?! About 5:00 they got into their costumes, and posed for a couple pictures before running outside to wait for Tanya and her kids to come over and join us on our quest for candy. Killian was Harry Potter, and Rowan was Hermione Granger:

Soon enough, or not nearly soon enough depending on how you look at it, our friends arrived and we got ready to hit the neighborhood. What a great looking bunch of trick or treaters!

We ended up trick or treating for about an hour and a half, and right as we were heading home it started to lightly sprinkle. It was great timing, because by that point the kids were getting tired, the grown ups all had sore feet, and nobody wanted to continue on in the rain. Usually every year after returning home, the kids sit around forever and trade candy - the bargaining is pretty hilarious to watch. But Halloween was on a school night this year, so the kids just got about 5 minutes to examine their hauls. Everyone crowded around together except Rowan - she was fascinated with a eyeball candy she had received and she sat quietly by herself examining it:

The kids each had a piece of candy, and headed off to bed. We all agreed that they would get to keep about 30 pieces each, and the rest they would "sell" to Matthew and I. We give them a couple bucks, keep all that crap out of their bodies, and we will either throw the candy away or Matthew will take it to his work. Either way, its out of our house fairly quickly and I don't have to hear any more whining to have more, more, more. I love Halloween, and everything that comes with it, but the massive amounts of chocolate around the house are definitely testing my willpower (I am winning so far....but maybe not for much longer)!
