Read to the dogs

The kids and I usually go to the library about once a week, to drag home stacks of books for us to read to them and for them to flip through on their own. A few weeks ago when we were chatting with the librarian, I noticed a flyer on the wall that said "Read to the Dogs". The kids have been totally dog crazy the last few months, ever since we decided that we were going to add a dog to our family next year. They talk about our future dog constantly, so I knew that this would be something that they would like. I inquired about it, and was told that the kids just have to be old enough to read independently (which would leave Rowan out) and that the spots fill up really fast. I got Killian on the waiting list, and was told to call back the next week to sign up for a December slot. When I did, we got a spot reserved for us in early December and I thought that was that.

But this morning the library called and said that there had been a cancellation for this evenings session, and would Killian like to come in tonight to read? I knew he would, so I said of course and we headed over to the library at 5. We met the dog he would be reading too, a beautiful pit bull mix named Robert. You could tell that he had done this before, because as soon as we walked into the room to read to him, he stretched out really long and flopped down on the cushions, waiting for Killian to get started. Killian brought one of his Diary of a Wimpy Kid books, and sat for the next 20 minutes ready aloud to Robert. It looks to me like they were both enjoying themselves:

I think this is such a great program for kids, it gives Killian a chance to practice his reading out loud skills, and also gives him a chance to hang out with mans best friend. When we left Killian was so happy, and kept saying how soft the dog was and how much fun he had. Lucky him, we get to go back and do it again next month!
