Turkey, turkey, turkey....we just cant seem to get enough! First we had Thanksgiving day dinner at Michelle's house, and it was a day full of delicious food and great conversation. My brother joined us, which made it really special for me...this was the first Thanksgiving in years that I have spent with him. Since Michelle was hosting, it made sense for her to provide the turkey, but we still really wanted to cook up one of our big beautiful birds that we had bought from Linda's farm. So we decided to hold a second Thanksgiving, and invite Jeanne to join us, since she doesn't really have any family of her own. After the crash yesterday, cooking all day and cleaning up the house was the last thing I wanted to be doing. Thankfully Matthew and Mike really stepped in to help get everything ready and handle all the heavy lifting and things that I couldn't handle. And this turkey was definitely heavy lifting! We decided to cook our Broad Breasted White, the turkey that had weighed in at 24.5 pounds....he was such a beast that I almost needed a bigger roasting pan!

The bird roasted up beautifully, and the taste was out of this world. I am so happy with our decision to get our birds from Linda, and I feel good knowing what a good life our turkey had. I am definitely never going back to a grocery store turkey again!!
I was pretty much in pain all day, and it didn't even occur to me to take a picture of the finished bird until after Matthew had already carved it up. So you will have to use your imagination here a little bit, and trust me when I say it was roasted to perfection:

I could not believe the amount of breast meat we got off this bird, this serving platter is at least 18 inches long and one breast and thigh totally filled the plate!

We will be eating off of this bird for the rest of the week, and I am saving the carcass to make stock with as well. And we still have our heritage Bourbon Red turkey to look forward to, I am expecting it to be nothing short of amazing and totally delicious. Thank goodness for turkey, I love this time of year!
