They were predicting snow all day today, up to 1 inch of it, but the morning, afternoon and evening came and went without a trace of any fluffy white stuff. I thought for a while we must be in some sort of weird snow vortex, because everyone around us seemed to be watching it fall on and off all day while we had nothing. The kids had been in bed for about 30 minutes when I thought to check outside again, and to my surprise it was lightly snowing! Rowan was already asleep, but Killian was awake so I had him get dressed and we headed out onto the front porch to drink tea and watch the snow fall together.

There wasn't much at all but around here any snowfall, no matter how small the amount, is reason to celebrate and get excited! Killian certainly was!

I was SURE that he would have school the next morning, because there was hardly any accumulation. I don't know what I was thinking as Portland Metro schools close at even the *thought* of snow! Sure enough, when I checked in the morning his school was closed and we had ourselves a snow day. First things first - the kids got dressed and ran out to play:

It was a little tough...there wasn't even enough snow for a proper snowball!

But they sure tried their hardest to scrape it up off the deck!

They played outside for a few hours in the morning, and then came in to warm up with hot chocolate and a meal. After lunch we decided to get started on these adorable little turkey cupcakes I had seen online:

We had a great time decorating them - we used candy corn for the feathers and beaks, nilla wafers for heads and wings, and licorice for waddles. Super easy, and fun to put together and the perfect activity for a snow day.
The snow was gone the next day, but it was a nice little taste of one of our favorite parts of winter. Hopefully we will have a few good snowstorms come our way before winter is over, with enough snow to have proper snowball fights and build some snowmen. I am stocking up on hot chocolate in anticipation!
