We finally got around to going to see the lights at the Portland International Raceway tonight! Its a traditional holiday activity for us, but this year things have been anything but traditional for us. With all the stress of the car accident, buying a new car a week before Christmas, chiropractor appointments every few days, and all the regular holiday hoopla we just haven't had the time or desire to do a lot of the things we normally do this time of year. But both Matthew and I have been feeling awful about our lack of holiday spirit, so when we saw that the weather was supposed to be clear tonight we figured we would take the kids out to see the lights. Usually going during the week is a good bet because its not too crowded, but while looking up the directions I noticed on their site that the week of Christmas is usually the busiest time to go. Yikes! Last year we made the mistake of going on a weekend and we sat in line for over an hour before we even got to the entrance of the place. So I was dreading the wait, but it turned out to not be all that bad. We sat in line for maybe 20 minutes before getting to the entrance, and everyone stayed in good spirits:

One super cool thing about our new van is that the windows on the side doors roll down! I have never seen that before in a van and it was awesome for the kids because they could both see really well. And there were lots of pretty lights to see!

We drove through the track listening to the CD of Christmas music that they give you at the gate, and it definitely did wonders for our Christmas cheer. I am glad that we got took the kids out here, hopefully we can get a few more fun activities under our belts before the big day comes!
