The house that gingerbread made

Another Christmas tradition that just barely we just barely managed to squeak in this year -the construction and decoration of a gingerbread house! We have always bought a kit at Costco, and they usually come with un-assembled pieces for the house. They must have changed the design around, because this year the houses came prebuilt and ready for decorating. The kids were only a tiny bit excited at the sight of all the candy that was included:

We got to work decorating; Matthew handled the white frosting while I worked with the green, and the kids were left to deal with all the candy, a position that they took very seriously:

The house turned out fabulously, of course, and everyone (especially Rowan) was really pleased:

Once the house was done, the kids turned their attention to the two gingerbread people that had come with in the kit. These of course required a LOT of frosting and candy decorations:

Those cute little gingerbread men didn't last long, the kids gobbled them up in no time. Gingerbread house decorating is one of our favorite holiday traditions, and even though we got to it really late this year I was happy we did it. The smiles on the kids faces were worth the wait!
