Shame (and motivation)

Mike watched Killian and Rowan today while I went to the Chiropractor, and when I got home they were all getting on their shoes and heading outside. "We are going to weed the garden, and Uncle Mike is going to pay us" the kids happily announced before trotting out to the backyard. No wonder. I cant get them to weed the garden unless I pay them either.

I sat down to eat a quick snack and check face book before I went out to join them, and what should I see on Mike's page but pictures of our garden! Now, normally that would not be a bad thing, as I am quite proud of my garden and all the delicious veggies it grows for us. But we kinda dropped the keeping-up-with-weeding ball back in September, and we never got around to picking it up again. So the picture he posted online looked a whole lot like this one:

Oh, the shame!! You cant even tell there are raised areas, it just looks like one big, huge patch of ugly weedy garden. I thought maybe it would look better from another angle, but even looking into the sun doesn't help:

Luckily for my poor neglected garden, Mike is a really motivated guy, and a superstar weeder. He and the kids got to work on this bed, weeding and cleaning up:

I tried to be as useful as the rest of them and got to work with the leaf blower in the front yard. We all got quite a bit of work done, and the yard and garden certainly look better than they did before. Mike has really motivated me to quit slacking and take advantage of any days without rain to whip our garden area back into shape. Before I know it, Spring is going to be here and I intend to be ready!
