One week later

Ruger has now been home with us for a whole week. He is slowly recovering from his dehydration with the help of a couple prescriptions and lots of love, which everyone has been happy to give the little guy. Its been great to see him feeling better and to start having some fun with him! He loves to play, and squeaky toys are high up on his list of favorites:

He is such a silly little puppy:

He also loves to spend time outside, which we do every day even when its rainy and yucky outside (come on Summer!!). His most favorite thing about outside is the endless supply of sticks to chew on:

Although leaves to pounce on are a close second. I know this picture is fuzzy, but I love it because it captures that wonderful puppy exuberance:

A rare still moment:

Ruger with his two best buddies:

I don't know if its just that he is so young, or if he is just a REALLY mellow dog, but Ruger spends most of his time laying around sleeping, or just watching everyone go about the house. Friends who have met him comment on his lack puppy craziness. A worker at Petsmart says he rarely sees such well behaved puppies in the store, because its usually so mentally overstimulating for them. Ruger? He lays down on a blanket in the cart, and falls right asleep. He is so relaxed that it worries me sometimes, but then I remember to count my blessings. I am really glad that he doesn't bounce off the walls, but I have a feeling that as he gets older his energy level isn't going to go anywhere but up, up, up! But for now, its so cute to see him stretched out enjoying a little puppy nap:

I love this picture - I caught him right at the end of a yawn:

Things aren't always fun and adorable with a new puppy. He wakes up at least twice a night to pee, doesn't always make it outside despite our best efforts at potty training, and he is still learning what is okay to chew and what isn't. He whines a lot, chases the cat, and doesn't quite understand the concept of keeping his teeth to himself. But one look at this little face and I just melt, and its easy to forget about all the hard moments. After all...whats not to love? ♥
