While I am out and about socializing Ruger, I have met quite a few other German Shepherd dog owners. And inevitably, one of the first questions they have asked me is "Has he started shedding yet"? When I answered no, they would smirk and say with a twinkle in their eye "Just wait".
Well the time has come...I finally know what they mean. Ruger is shedding, and boy oh boy, is the hair flying. This is what I sweep up in just ONE day:
The picture doesn't really do that pile of dog hair justice...its at least two handfuls. And I think that was a "low shed" day for him...yikes!
Its been a while since he had a proper bath, so after brushing him one day I decided to pop him in the tub and give him a scrub. This is the aftermath....
Again, the picture doesn't really do the situation justice. Not only were my legs covered in thick black dog hair (bathing him is full contact, and I am generally standing in the tub with him), but the bathtub, shower walls, the entire bathroom floor, the back of the door, and the wall were covered in thick globs of black dog hair. It took me longer to clean the bathroom than it did to bath him! I told Matthew next time we are going to one of those self service dog washing places. I hope they have a really powerful vacuum there, cause they are going to need it by the time we get through!
