Summer Brew

Matthew has been brewing beer like crazy lately, and having a great time trying new recipes and learning new techniques. Its so awesome that he has a hobby that he enjoys so much, I love seeing how excited he gets when one of his beers turns out really well (which nearly all of them have).

His newest adventure is the perfect summer brew - a Strawberry Pale Ale. He brewed his beer like normal, but after it was done fermenting he poured it into a secondary fermentor....over 8 POUNDS of strawberries!

He let the beer and strawberries sit for about 5 days, and when he removed the lid nearly all the redness of the berries had leached into the beer:

This is a shot of the beer as its being added to the berries:

And this is the final product after being poured off the berries - its got a great rosy red color to it:

We took a little taste when we were bottling, and while the flavor will still change and gain a lot more complexity as it ages, the beer was really good! I can definitely imagine sipping a glass of it while swinging on the hammock enjoying a late summer evening with my family. Another successful brew for Matthew, and the perfect ode to summer!
