Blueberry Bonanza!

For the last couple of weeks I have been really stressing out about the absence of a blueberry stash in my freezer. We finished up the last of 2010's berries a month or so ago, so I knew I had to get out and restock before the season was over. We can't possibly make it through the winter without these little jewels! Thing is, we have been so busy the last couple of weeks that we haven't been able to carve out any time to go picking. As the days kept rolling by, I got more and more worried that we were going to miss blueberries entirely this year. Lucky for us, I found out that our favorite blueberry farm was going to open for one last day this year....and that day was today!

Matthew and I headed out with our two little berry pickers bright and early this morning, and practically ran to the fields after we parked. We spent the next hour or so picking our little blueberry loving hearts out, and managed to come away with quite the haul:

46.5 pounds in all! Most of them are destined for the freezer for midwinter snacking, but a few will be set aside for some lovely blueberry desserts and fresh snacking right now. It can be a lot of work, but I love that we are able to stock up like this. We will all be especially grateful for it come mid January, when fresh berries are just a sweet summer memory!
