Happy 11th Birthday Killian!

What is this!? I just wrote a post about how my teeny tiny baby was entering the big girl world of kindergarten, and now a post about my first teeny tiny baby celebrating his 11th birthday?! Goodness....I am getting old, and time is flying by much too fast.

I really truly can't believe that Killian is 11 years old already. 11!! There isn't a day that goes by that I don't have a holy crap who is this big kid and where did my toddler go moment. He amazes me all the time with his creativity, his maturity, his understanding, his kindness (except when pushing his baby sisters buttons) and his sweet and generous nature. I am so proud of the young man that he is growing up to be, and I am honored and feel truly blessed to be his mom and to have such a wonderful relationship with him. He is one amazing kid!

His real birthday was Wednesday, and when Rowan woke up she bounded out of bed and rushed to go get Killian so she could have him open the present she had been working on:

She had carefully wrapped up and protected her gift in a fabric bag and her play lunchbox:

And the big gift was.....a Lego creation! And I didn't even get a good picture of it! Mainly because I was too busy taking this one and wiping a tear from my eye caused by witnessing such sweetness between these two:

You can see it in the bottom left of the picture, along with a bag of Skittles that she gifted him. That addition definitely made his lunchbox the coolest one in the cafeteria at school. Not a normal school lunch treat, but you only turn 11 once!

A couple days later, we had a bunch of his friends over to celebrate his birthday with a sleepover birthday party. Moms aren't really allowed to attend these things, but I did sneak around with my camera and got a few pictures of the fun. The kids all came over around 5, and played in Killian's room for a while:

See that little blondie on the left there behind Killian? Yup, while moms are definitely not invited, 5 year old little sisters are welcome. I love, love, love that he is always okay with her being involved with whatever he is doing when he has friends over. Especially on a special day like this, when most big brothers wouldn't have let their little sisters within 10 feet of their room and friends. Have I mentioned how completely awesome and amazing I think Killian is?!

They ate a quick pizza dinner together while we waited for Matthew to get home from work (look how they are all trying to cover their faces, and hide from the camera except Rowan, who is grinning just as big as she possibly can):

When Matthew got home, he bravely loaded up all 6 boys in the van and headed over to Wunderland, a nickle arcade that we both grew up going to. I cant believe they are still in business, but they are and apparently it is THE place to be if you are a video game loving boy (or Dad). They spent a few hours there, while Rowan and I hung out at home together, getting things ready for the evening festivities.

When they got home, a little smelly and sweaty, and toting all their dollar store like prizes, we played outside in the dark for a little bit before sitting down for cake and presents.

Killian got a really super heavy Lego set from us:

To the cheers of his friends saying "WOW, that set costs like $100 bucks"!!! Not quite kids...this mama knows how to shop a Target clearance sale. ;)

After hopping them up on cake, we added more fuel to the fire by presenting them with this:

A platter full of fake colors, preservatives, disgusting ingredients and sickeningly sweet treats. Something I would never feed my kids on a regular basis, but you DO only turn 11 once, so what the heck. Might as well make it a party!

And party they did! We hooked the X-Box up in Killian's room, and gave them a stack of kid approved games, that plate of candy, and we watched the fun fly. Matthew and Rowan spent a lot of time in there, taking turns trying to beat up the boys in Mortal Kombat and sneaking their fare share of the candy and crackers:

The boys stayed up till about 2 am before we shut them down, and astonishingly they all woke up by 7am. That made for groggy little pancake eaters, but they were all bleary eyed with happiness at having such a fun time. This was Killian's first "big kid" birthday party, and while it was a little crazy having six 11 year old boys in my house overnight, it was a great party and I know that Killian had a fantastic time so that's all that really matters to me. Happy Birthday Killian, and thanks for being the best kid that any parents could ask for!
