We definitely haven't had the same sort of month leading up to Halloween day as we usually do - no decorations this year, no Halloween party, and no lights put up outside. We barely got in one visit to the pumpkin patch (two for Rowan if you count her school field trip) and costumes were not thought out weeks in advance like they normally are. All in all, we haven't had much Halloween spirit going around our house this year...
Until about a week ago that is. I don't know if it was the pumpkin carving that got us all in the mood, or for the kids, the thought of overflowing trick or treating buckets. But somehow, just in the nick of time, our Halloween spirit arrived and to say we were excited for the big day would be a bit of an understatement:

The kids were in their costumes hours before it got dark, and were getting more and more wound up and anxious. I barely got them to stand still for this picture, before they were off and running again.

Rowan made a big change and chose to be something a lot more "girly" than usual - a witch! She was so really excited about her costume, and looked absolutely adorable.
Killian found an old suit of Matthews, and decided to go as a mobster. All I had to buy him was a fedora and with a borrowed tie, he was set. He did this last year too, recycling an old scream costume of Matthews (one of the benefits of him being so darn tall). I like when I don't have to spend a bunch of money on a one night costume!

In past years we have always gone trick or treating with friends, but the kids decided that this year they wanted to go with just Matthew and I. We have had a lot of big stressful decisions on our minds lately, and I think they wanted some extra one on one time with us. It was a nice change because we were able to go from house to house a lot faster with less people, which was perfect because it was *really* cold that night. The kids covered quite a bit of ground and lasted a long time before the cold and tiredness got the best of them and we headed home.
I didn't get any pictures of their candy stashes, but they sure got a lot! Which will end up costing Matthew and I a pretty penny, since we buy their candy back from them every year. Its better for them not to eat all that junk, and they are happy to trade it in for cash to buy a new toy. Win win for everyone, especially the people at Matthews work who get to enjoy the result of all Killian and Rowans hard work!
